Russell started in aviation in 1990 as a British Airways Apprentice, working on both longhaul and shorthaul fleets. This was the start of a long career at British Airways which included planning and production manager roles which eventually lead to the Engineering Operations Manager role which oversaw the entire operating day out of LHR and subsidiary maintenance delivery at BAMC and BAMG. During in this time alongside his work responsibilities Russell also found time to gain a BA(Hons) in Psychology.
After 24 years at British Airways Russell took the position of Senior Manager Line Maintenance for Qatar Airways based in Doha, the key focus was the re-organisation of the support structure which led to the introduction of Fleet management and this paid dividends on the 787 fleet with Qatar being recognised by Boeing for significant Dispatch reliability improvement to become a world leader on that fleet.
After deciding to come back to the UK, Russell worked for Thomas Cook Airlines at Manchester, initially within their compliance department but eventually becoming GM for Manchester maintenance which covered the Line and Hangar operations based there. This is where Russell joined Storm from in 2018.
Away from work Russells focus is his family but he also finds time for Stand up paddle boarding and most weekends are spent on a river somewhere.
