Celebrating International Women’s Day with Rosie McCardie

This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to spotlight Rosie McCardie, a valued member of our Storm Aviation team. Rosie’s journey into aviation engineering is an inspiring example of determination, growth, and a passion for the industry.

Rosie’s Journey into Aviation

“I first joined Storm Aviation on a work experience placement after completing my degree in Aero-Mechanical Engineering. That opportunity led to a role as a Document Controller, where I worked for about six months before progressing to my current position as a Graduate Technical Services Engineer.”

Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry

Aviation and engineering have traditionally been male-dominated fields, but that didn’t deter Rosie from pursuing her passion.

“At school, I enjoyed maths and physics and always had a keen interest in aviation. I knew I wanted to apply my skills in this field, so I chose a degree centred around aviation. After graduating, I realised I wanted a career that wasn’t necessarily hands-on, which led me to work experience at Storm and ultimately, my current role.”

Encouraging More Women in Aviation

Rosie believes that raising awareness about the variety of roles available in aviation could encourage more young women to consider careers in the industry.

“Many people associate aviation careers with hands-on roles, but there are so many other opportunities, such as Technical Services and Document Control. If more young women were made aware of these options, it could open doors for those interested in aviation without necessarily working directly on the tools.”

Lessons Learned and Skills Gained

Since joining Storm Aviation, Rosie has gained invaluable insights into aircraft maintenance and technical services.

“I’ve learned a lot about the different types of aircraft checks and the extensive planning involved. Moving into Technical Services has given me experience with various aircraft maintenance manuals and how to navigate them effectively. I’ve also expanded my knowledge of aircraft damage assessment and repair solutions.”

Looking to the Future

Rosie has ambitious goals for her career within Storm Aviation and beyond.

“I want to continue developing within Technical Services, as there’s so much to learn in this role. Over the next few years, I aim to complete my graduate training and eventually become a Technical Services Engineer. Additionally, I’m passionate about getting involved in STEM outreach to encourage more girls to explore careers in aviation—just as I did.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

At Storm Aviation, we’re committed to supporting women in aviation and showcasing the incredible talent within our team. Rosie’s journey is a testament to the opportunities available in this industry for those with passion and perseverance.

Happy International Women’s Day!
